Melanie Roat has kindly allowed us to her field for parking, which can be accessed off the B1368. The car park is manned by 1st Braughing Scouts and your £1 fee will go to support them
Can I leave my car in the car park overnight?
Yes. We have a great bar available, so we understand that you might not want to drive home after the event. But, your cars must be moved by 8am on Sunday to that the horses can go back in.
Will I be able to get in and out of the village?
The approved road closures are all manned and our volunteer will be able to point you to an alternative route around the village. The Road closure will be enforced from 10.30pm to 6pm. They are at the bottom of Stortford Lane, Green Lane, Quinn Court, The Causeway and of course the top of Malting Lane to allow for our fabulous Ford. Whilst the races are running between 3pm and 5pm there will be no access to or from the village. We will of course ensure access for emergency vehicles at all times.
Do I have to pay to come in?
Yes. We ask that everyone on legs pays 50p to enter. We will give you a free programme with a lucky number so you could win £50.
Can I enter the races on the day?
Yes, but entry closes at 1pm Places in each race are limited so to avoid disappointment enter race via >>EVENTBRITE<<
Where does the money from the event go?
Many local organisations and charities are raising money for themselves. The wheelbarrow race committee raise money to allow the event to run in the following year. We also try to give some money to local causes, such as the new playground.
How do I enter my dog into the Dog Show?
The registration starts on the day at 1215. Bring your dog to the second field on the Malting Lane side of the Ford to sign up.
How can I help out?
We always need volunteers to help set up on Friday and clear up on Sunday as well as marshalls during the races. If you’d like to help please get in touch via email or call Lesley on 01920 822150.
What else is there to do besides the races? Are there activities for children?
We have a wide variety of stalls and activities, local crafts and produce and hopefully something for everyone.
We have a bouncy castle and slide for the younger children, and the climbing wall. Lots of the stalls will have fun activities, too. We have the Aqua Donuts on the Ford, kindly provided by KB Tyres of Puckeridge and as long as the sun is shining, bring your swimming costume and towel because the beach is back!
Why can’t I throw water balloons?
We’re keen to look after our village and its feathered residents who allow us use of their home for the day. The small pieces of rubber, along with other dropped litter, all need picking up otherwise they can get eaten by the ducks and make them poorly. We have litter picker kits from EHDC for a sweep of the village the day after, if you’re available to help, please get in touch.
Our event is heavily supported by Friends of Jenyns school. Not only do they run the bar, and provide all of the bar staff, but they also run the Grand Raffle. This year they have some fabulous prizes - Standon Calling tickets; Virtual reality sessions at VIRE, photography session and many many more. Raffle tickets are available now from Jenyns School office or on the day.
